In the Hydroponic System, plants are not grown on soils. Instead, they are grown in added nutrients in liquids, sand or gravel. The soil is replaced with other materials. As the foam-like materials absorb and move water, the plants get their nutrients from the water soaked up by the foam.  Plant roots having been exposed to nutrient solutions like fish waste, chemical fertilizers or duck manure are used to grow plants.

Hydroponic Growing Methods

The hydroponic system makes it possible for plants to be grown at home using mediums like clay pebbles, coconut husks, perlite or any other airy medium. The nutrients flow through the medium and provide food for the plant.

Aeroponics
This system is similar to the Hydroponic system and often referred to as its off-shoot.  The major difference is that it does not require any medium. With Aeroponics, you have more control over the root system because the roots are not immersed in any liquids. Rather, they are sprayed with high-pressure mist containing nutrients.
